UEFA have been told to take action over reports of Barcelona stewards assaulting Spurs fans, with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust calling for European football’s governing body to show ‘urgency’ in the matter.A video, filmed during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Camp Nou in December, was shared on social media appearing to show Barcelona stewards assault visiting fans with batons.
I just need to address this issue which happened last night during the game. Absolutely disgusting behavior by Barcelona stewards hitting us with batons for no reason! @SpursOfficial please send this to @UEFA @ChampionsLeague its disgusting. RT to find these scumbags! #THFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/JYk5N3u7fw— Alex (@LxcasMoura) December 12, 2018The assault is alleged to have occurred with no provocation, and Tottenham released a statement in the wake of the incident confirming they would contact the relevant authorities. The north London club are believed to have submitted a full report to UEFA last month, though no action has been taken since. And the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust have now called for ‘urgency’ from European football’s governing body. Co-chairMartin Cloake told ESPN: “We know things move very slowly in official football circles but we’d like to see a bit more urgency in dealing with the very serious issues raised about the treatment of visiting fans to Barcelona.“The accounts we received show there is not just a risk of people being seriously injured, but that people are sustaining serious injuries at the hands of security forces who seem able to act with impunity. This is not a new problem in Spain and the game’s authorities have a responsibility to ensure fans can visit stadiums in safety.1
