Manchester derby: Man United fan tells talkSPORT he wants Man City to win and wouldnt care if it was 8-0, just to stop Liverpool winning title
Manchester United fans are divided over who to back in Wednesdays Manchester derby, with one supporter telling talkSPORT he wants Man City to win and doesnt care if its 8-0!The Old Trafford faithful have been faced with the ultimate of dilemmas ahead of the clash a win over City would boost their top-four hopes and claim the local bragging rights, but could also hand the Premier League title to old enemies Liverpool. Many would argue Uniteds rivalry with the Merseysiders is greater than their rivalry against noisy neighbours City, and a big number of Red Devils supporters would stop at nothing to prevent Liverpool from getting theirhands on a 19th league title.Man United fans delighted in their dominance of the Premier League over the best part of the last three decades but no longer2

But not all agree, it seems, as Alan Brazil and David Seaman found out when they invited United fans to call into Wednesdays Sports Breakfast to state who they are backing.United fan Dibbsy had one of the more extreme views, admitting hed be happy if his beloved team got absolutely tanked by City as long as it thwarted Jurgen Klopps Reds. But that didnt impress some of his fellow supportersThe fan of over 50 years said: Ive been supporting Manchester United since the 57 cup final against Aston Villa, and as far as Im concerned I want Manchester City tonight to stop Liverpool. If they beat us 8-0, I dont care.If Liverpool win the Premier League well never hear the flaming end of it, and thats something I dont want to hear.Jason, a fellow United follower, also admitted he will be backing his blue rivals out of his bitterness towards old foes Liverpool.Im a Man United fan but, I hate saying it, Ill be cheering on Man City tonight, he said.It comes from my childhood, I went to school with a load of Liverpool fans in the 80s when they were the dominant force, so I just dont want them winning the Premier League. Its just bitterness, really.Even some of the most passionate United fans want their side to lose against Man City2

But, one supporter was absolutely blowing his top when he called into the show later on Wednesday morning, saying its embarrassing any United fan would back City to win the derby. Some of the United fans this morning have just riled me, Pete fumed. How could you go to a derby and want to lose because Liverpool might win the league? That caller who said, I dont care if we lose 8-0, thats embarrassing! Its embarrassing that other United fans are saying we should lose against Man City.Liverpool are not our biggest rivals, City are out biggest rivals! Jonathan and Ron also agreed that no true Manchester United supporter would want their team to lose any game, regardless of what the result might mean for other clubs. We hate Liverpool and they hate us, Jonathan told Alan Brazil and David Seaman. The last thing we want is for Liverpool to win the league, but when that game starts I never want to see my team lose. Im a true red and I never want to see United lose.Ron added: These other fans, theyre mad.I dont care about Liverpool and I dont care about City, Im a United fan and any true United fan wants our team to win every game we play, regardless of what it means for other teams.Im not bothered about Liverpool theyre never been as big as United and theyve never going to be as big as United.
